AUF@50: Serving from the heart of the Church

Angeles University Foundation is set to celebrate its 50th anniversary with a roster of week-long events, starting with the blessing and inauguration of the new AUF Sports and Cultural Center (AUF-SCC) on May 24, 2012, it was announced by AUF president Atty. Joseph Emmanuel L. Angeles.

At 50 years, Angeles said AUF has already spent P505 million on 26,000 scholars since 1962. He added that 20 percent of the students are scholars while the law requires only five percent.

A total of 37,477 graduates were produced by AUF since 1964, Angeles said. The new AUF Sports and Cultural Center (AUF-SCC) will be inaugurated on May 24.

After the blessing, the AUF@50: The Exhibit will be formally opened to be followed by a piano concert by AUF Center for Culture and the Arts director Gildo “Boron” A. Garcia, Jr.

In the evening of May 24, a live concert featuring the Metro Manila Concert Orchestra conducted by Prof. Chino Toledo and the PAGCOR 5 will stage a concert at the AUFSCC Cultural Hall expected to draw a crowd of 1,500 composed of guests, students, employees and alumni.

On May 25, the anniversary thanksgiving mass will be presided over by no less than the Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Giuseppe Pinto and Pampanga Archbishop and AUF Chairman Archbishop Paciano B. Aniceto, who be assisted by former and incumbent AUF chaplains.  This will be followed by a testimonial program where AUF benefactors and donors will be cited.

The AUF Grand Alumni Homecoming is set on May 26 which will start with a motorcade to be followed by a thanksgiving mass and program where  the AUF Most Outstanding Alumni will be awarded. The honorees are: Corazon Y. Capitulo, BS Education ’70 for Education; Engr. Rafael C. Yabut, BS Civil Engineering ’76 for Government Service, Lyn V. Lansangan, BS Education ’82 for Education; Ma. Antonette C. Esguerra, BS Nursing ’87 for Health Sciences; Ma. Therese Zapanta-Verzosa, BS Nursing ’93 for Community Service; PSupt Allan R. Macapagal, BS Criminology ’93 for Law Enforcement; Dr. Carmelo C. Cunanan, BS Physical Therapy ’95 for Health Education; and Rev. Fr. Enrique M. Luzung, BS Psychology ’93 for Religious Service.

The event will be capped by a live concert by acoustic artist Paolo Santos and MYMP at the AUFSCC.

Meanwhile, the search for the 2012 Reyna Ning Flores de Mayo will be staged on May 27 at SM City Clark. A total of 20 sagalas from the different towns and cities of Pampanga will compete wearing original creations of local designers.  Considered as the province’s grandest Flores de Mayo competition, the event is for the benefit of charity patients at the AUF Medical Center and AUF scholars. The winning sagalas will receive: P 30,000 – grand winner; P 25,000 – 1st runner-up; P 20,000 – 2nd  runner-up; P 15,000 – 3rd runner-up: P 10,000 – 4th runner-up.

Big cash awards await designers of the Best Filipino Gown and Best Arch.
