Project: Tagbanua Tribe – Culion, Palawan
One of the many crippling problems of rural education in the Philippines is access to essential benefits and services, severely impacting the indigenous tribes in very remote islands. The Tagbanua tribe is one of the oldest indigenous tribes thriving in the archipelago. Still, the Tagbanua continue to be one of the most underprivileged Filipino communities in the nation. The Tagbanua students suffer a grueling 80-minute walk to get to the nearest school. In December 2018, Empower Philippines, through the generous help of our donors and sponsors, was able to build a classroom at Sitio Mampok, Barangay Malaking Patag, Culion, Palawan. With the classroom now fully operating, the Tagbanua students would no longer need to endure this.
